Synopsis
Synopsis
In the desert outskirts of Tehran, a solitary man works for criminal networks, carrying and burying unidentified bodies.
When he learns he has advanced pancreatic cancer, the distance that separated him from the dead begins to disappear.
After one last job, he heads deep into the desert with his opium and the fragments of a buried past, preparing for his own passage.
Statement
Director's statement
CHARON is a Franco-Iranian auteur film at the crossroads of myth, mortality, political atmosphere and existential realism.
Inspired by the mythological figure of Charon, the ferryman of the dead in Greco-Roman tradition, the film imagines him reborn in contemporary Iran: a man without a name or a public face, tasked with making disappear what society refuses to see.
Its visual world rests on an almost monochrome palette, crossed by faint violet and ash-grey tints, like an image slowly contaminated by disappearance. The desert is not a setting: it is a condition.
The film holds together the rigour of social realism and the resonance of myth, without ever forcing the metaphor. CHARON does not try to explain the world: it walks with a man towards his own limit.
